Father, Husband, Photographer

Since the age of 10 I have had a passion for photography. From my first camera, a cheap plastic Kodak 110 instamatic, to my first 35mm camera a 1953 Kodak Retina, to my Hasselblad and finally to my current digital Nikon D200. The process is still the same, snatching a moment in time. Part of my inspiration came from my grandfather who was a photographer from the mid-west with an eye for people. During the 1930's and 40's he photographed farmers and the day to day hard life of these very tough people. I grew up looking at all of these images of family he had photographed and wondered if they were dead or alive or just who they were. I feel that film makes people and places immortal. It's that moment in time, frozen forever. That's why photographing people are my passion. We are so fragile and so different in appearance that every image is unique.

After graduating with a degree in Broadcasting I decided that it was not the industry I wanted to pursue and so I took up my new career in photography. A masters program was too expensive for me so I worked for wedding photographers for a couple years as an assistant and that is the industry I learned about and soon become a part of. As well I worked in just about every lab in San Francisco to learn about the other side of photography, everything from E6 processing (slide film), being a color printer and black and white printer. I worked in New York City for a while learning the trade in a very competitive environment. After coming back to San Francisco from NYC I picked up my wedding and event photography business and continued to work in the city for the next 10 years. In 2005 I moved to Petaluma, Ca.

In the past three years I have stepped up my game. I have taken the skills I have learned as a wedding photographer and put them to use in expanding my photographic career, commercial advertising and beauty photography. I have been shooting catalogs for DHC, USA Inc., a Japanese skin care company for the past four years. I have a studio in San Rafael, Ca where I photograph models, families and some products.

In addition to my commercial work I have a library of images from my extensive travels throughout out Europe, Japan, South Pacific and the USA.
